6 But the hand3027 of the LORD3068 was heavy3513 upon413 them of Ashdod,795 and he destroyed8074 them, and smote5221 them with emerods,6076 even 853 Ashdod795 and the coasts1366 ther.

7 And when the men376 of Ashdod795 saw7200 that3588 it was so,3651 they said,559 The ark727 of the God430 of Israel3478 shall not3808 abide3427 with5973 us: for3588 his hand3027 is sore7185 upon5921 us, and upon5921 Dagon1712 our god.430

8 They sent7971 therefore and gathered622 853 all3605 the lords5633 of the Philistines6430 unto413 them, and said,559 What4100 shall we do6213 with the ark727 of the God430 of Israel?3478 And they answered,559 Let the ark727 of the God430 of Israel3478 be carried about5437 unto Gath.1661 And they carried5437 853 the ark727 of the God430 of Israel3478 about thither.

9 And it was1961 so, that, after310 they had carried it about,5437 853 the hand3027 of the LORD3068 was1961 against the city5892 with a very3966 great1419 destruction:4103 and he smote5221 853 the men376 of the city,5892 both small4480 6996 and great,1419 and they had emerods6076 in their secret parts.8368

10 Therefore they sent7971 853 the ark727 of God430 to Ekron.6138 And it came to pass,1961 as the ark727 of God430 came935 to Ekron,6138 that the Ekronites6139 cried out,2199 saying,559 They have brought about5437 853 the ark727 of the God430 of Israel3478 to413 us, to slay4191 us and our people.5971

11 So they sent7971 and gathered together622 853 all3605 the lords5633 of the Philistines,6430 and said,559 Send away7971 853 the ark727 of the God430 of Israel,3478 and let it go again7725 to his own place,4725 that it slay4191 us not,3808 and our people:5971 for3588 there was1961 a deadly4194 destruction4103 throughout all3605 the city;5892 the hand3027 of God430 was very3966 heavy3513 there.8033

12 And the men376 that834 died4191 not3808 were smitten5221 with the emerods:6076 and the cry7775 of the city5892 went up5927 to heaven.8064

1 καὶ ἀλλόφυλοι ἔλαβον τὴν κιβωτὸν τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ εἰσήνεγκαν α�τὴν �ξ Αβεννεζε� εἰς Ἄζωτον

2 καὶ ἔλαβον ἀλλόφυλοι τὴν κιβωτὸν κυ�ίου καὶ εἰσήνεγκαν α�τὴν εἰς οἶκον Δαγων καὶ πα�έστησαν α�τὴν πα�ὰ Δαγων

3 καὶ ὤ�θ�ισαν οἱ Ἀζώτιοι καὶ εἰσῆλθον εἰς οἶκον Δαγων καὶ εἶδον καὶ ἰδοὺ Δαγων πεπτωκὼς �πὶ π�όσωπον α�τοῦ �νώπιον κιβωτοῦ τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ἤγει�αν τὸν Δαγων καὶ κατέστησαν εἰς τὸν τόπον α�τοῦ καὶ �βα�ύνθη χεὶ� κυ�ίου �πὶ τοὺς Ἀζωτίους καὶ �βασάνισεν α�τοὺς καὶ �πάταξεν α�τοὺς εἰς τὰς ἕδ�ας α�τῶν τὴν Ἄζωτον καὶ τὰ ὅ�ια α�τῆς

4 καὶ �γένετο ὅτε ὤ�θ�ισαν τὸ π�ωί καὶ ἰδοὺ Δαγων πεπτωκὼς �πὶ π�όσωπον α�τοῦ �νώπιον κιβωτοῦ διαθήκης κυ�ίου καὶ ἡ κεφαλὴ Δαγων καὶ ἀμφότε�α τὰ ἴχνη χει�ῶν α�τοῦ ἀφῃ�ημένα �πὶ τὰ �μπ�όσθια αμαφεθ ἕκαστον καὶ ἀμφότε�οι οἱ κα�ποὶ τῶν χει�ῶν α�τοῦ πεπτωκότες �πὶ τὸ π�όθυ�ον πλὴν ἡ ῥάχις Δαγων ὑπελείφθη

5 διὰ τοῦτο ο�κ �πιβαίνουσιν οἱ ἱε�εῖς Δαγων καὶ πᾶς � εἰσπο�ευόμενος εἰς οἶκον Δαγων �πὶ βαθμὸν οἴκου Δαγων �ν Ἀζώτῳ ἕως τῆς ἡμέ�ας ταύτης ὅτι ὑπε�βαίνοντες ὑπε�βαίνουσιν

6 καὶ �βα�ύνθη χεὶ� κυ�ίου �πὶ Ἄζωτον καὶ �πήγαγεν α�τοῖς καὶ �ξέζεσεν α�τοῖς εἰς τὰς ναῦς καὶ μέσον τῆς χώ�ας α�τῆς ἀνεφύησαν μύες καὶ �γένετο σύγχυσις θανάτου μεγάλη �ν τῇ πόλει

7 καὶ εἶδον οἱ ἄνδ�ες Ἀζώτου ὅτι οὕτως καὶ λέγουσιν ὅτι ο� καθήσεται κιβωτὸς τοῦ θεοῦ Ισ�αηλ μεθ᾽ ἡμῶν ὅτι σκλη�ὰ χεὶ� α�τοῦ �φ᾽ ἡμᾶς καὶ �πὶ Δαγων θεὸν ἡμῶν

8 καὶ ἀποστέλλουσιν καὶ συνάγουσιν τοὺς σατ�άπας τῶν ἀλλοφύλων π�ὸς α�τοὺς καὶ λέγουσιν τί ποιήσωμεν κιβωτῷ θεοῦ Ισ�αηλ καὶ λέγουσιν οἱ Γεθθαῖοι μετελθέτω κιβωτὸς τοῦ θεοῦ π�ὸς ἡμᾶς καὶ μετῆλθεν κιβωτὸς τοῦ θεοῦ εἰς Γεθθα

9 καὶ �γενήθη μετὰ τὸ μετελθεῖν α�τὴν καὶ γίνεται χεὶ� κυ�ίου �ν τῇ πόλει τά�αχος μέγας σφόδ�α καὶ �πάταξεν τοὺς ἄνδ�ας τῆς πόλεως ἀπὸ μικ�οῦ ἕως μεγάλου καὶ �πάταξεν α�τοὺς εἰς τὰς ἕδ�ας α�τῶν καὶ �ποίησαν ἑαυτοῖς οἱ Γεθθαῖοι ἕδ�ας

10 καὶ �ξαποστέλλουσιν τὴν κιβωτὸν τοῦ θεοῦ εἰς Ἀσκαλῶνα καὶ �γενήθη ὡς εἰσῆλθεν κιβωτὸς θεοῦ εἰς Ἀσκαλῶνα καὶ �βόησαν οἱ Ἀσκαλωνῖται λέγοντες τί ἀπεστ�έψατε π�ὸς ἡμᾶς τὴν κιβωτὸν τοῦ θεοῦ Ισ�αηλ θανατῶσαι ἡμᾶς καὶ τὸν λαὸν ἡμῶν

11 καὶ �ξαποστέλλουσιν καὶ συνάγουσιν τοὺς σατ�άπας τῶν ἀλλοφύλων καὶ εἶπον �ξαποστείλατε τὴν κιβωτὸν τοῦ θεοῦ Ισ�αηλ καὶ καθισάτω εἰς τὸν τόπον α�τῆς καὶ ο� μὴ θανατώσῃ ἡμᾶς καὶ τὸν λαὸν ἡμῶν ὅτι �γενήθη σύγχυσις θανάτου �ν ὅλῃ τῇ πόλει βα�εῖα σφόδ�α ὡς εἰσῆλθεν κιβωτὸς θεοῦ Ισ�αηλ �κεῖ

12 καὶ οἱ ζῶντες καὶ ο�κ ἀποθανόντες �πλήγησαν εἰς τὰς ἕδ�ας καὶ ἀνέβη ἡ κ�αυγὴ τῆς πόλεως εἰς τὸν ο��ανόν

1 וּפְלִש�ְתִּי�֙ לָֽקְח֔וּ �ֵ֖ת �ֲר֣וֹן הָ�ֱלֹהִ֑י� וַיְבִ�ֻ֛הוּ מֵ�ֶ֥בֶן הָעֵ֖זֶר �ַש�ְדּֽוֹדָה׃

2 וַיִּקְח֤וּ פְלִש�ְתִּי�֙ �ֶת־�ֲר֣וֹן הָ�ֱלֹהִ֔י� וַיָּבִ֥י�וּ �ֹת֖וֹ בֵּ֣ית דָּג֑וֹן וַיַּצִּ֥יגוּ �ֹת֖וֹ �ֵ֥צֶל דָּגֽוֹן׃

3 וַיַּש�ְכִּ֤מוּ �ַש�ְדּוֹדִי�֙ מִֽמָּחֳרָ֔ת וְהִנֵּ֣ה דָג֗וֹן נֹפֵ֤ל לְפָנָיו֙ �ַ֔רְצָה לִפְנֵ֖י �ֲר֣וֹן יְהוָ֑ה וַיִּקְחוּ֙ �ֶת־דָּג֔וֹן וַיָּש�ִ֥בוּ �ֹת֖וֹ לִמְקוֹמֽוֹ׃

4 וַיַּש�ְכִּ֣מוּ בַבֹּקֶר֮ מִֽמָּחֳרָת֒ וְהִנֵּ֣ה דָג֗וֹן נֹפֵ֤ל לְפָנָיו֙ �ַ֔רְצָה לִפְנֵ֖י �ֲר֣וֹן יְהוָ֑ה וְרֹ֨�ש� דָּג֜וֹן וּש�ְתֵּ֣י׀ כַּפּ֣וֹת יָדָ֗יו כְּרֻתוֹת֙ �ֶל־הַמִּפְתָּ֔ן רַ֥ק דָּג֖וֹן נִש�ְ�ַ֥ר עָלָֽיו׃

5 עַל־כֵּ֡ן לֹֽ�־יִדְרְכוּ֩ כֹהֲנֵ֨י דָג֜וֹן וְכָֽל־הַבָּ�ִ֧י� בֵּית־דָּג֛וֹן עַל־מִפְתַּ֥ן דָּג֖וֹן בְּ�ַש�ְדּ֑וֹד עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹ� הַזֶּֽה׃ ס

6 וַתִּכְבַּ֧ד יַד־יְהוָ֛ה �ֶל־הָ�ַש�ְדּוֹדִ֖י� וַיְש�ִמֵּ֑� וַיַּ֤ךְ �ֹתָ�֙ בעפלי� בַּטְּחֹרִ֔י�a �ֶת־�ַש�ְדּ֖וֹד וְ�ֶת־גְּבוּלֶֽיהָ׃

7 וַיִּרְ�֥וּ �ַנְש�ֵֽי־�ַש�ְדּ֖וֹד כִּֽי־כֵ֑ן וְ�ָמְר֗וּ לֹֽ�־יֵש�ֵ֞ב �ֲר֨וֹן �ֱלֹהֵ֤י יִשְׂרָ�ֵל֙ עִמָּ֔נוּ כִּֽי־קָש�ְתָ֤ה יָדוֹ֙ עָלֵ֔ינוּ וְעַ֖ל דָּג֥וֹן �ֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃

8 וַיִּש�ְלְח֡וּ וַיַּ�ַסְפוּ֩ �ֶת־כָּל־סַרְנֵ֨י פְלִש�ְתִּ֜י� �ֲלֵיהֶ֗� וַיֹּֽ�מְרוּ֙ מַֽה־נַּעֲשֶׂ֗ה לַֽ�ֲרוֹן֙ �ֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָ�ֵ֔ל וַיֹּ֣�מְר֔וּ גַּ֣ת יִסֹּ֔ב �ֲר֖וֹן �ֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָ�ֵ֑ל וַיַּסֵּ֕בּוּ �ֶת־�ֲר֖וֹן �ֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָ�ֵֽל׃ ס

9 וַיְהִ֞י �ַחֲרֵ֣י׀ הֵסַ֣בּוּ �ֹת֗וֹ וַתְּהִ֨י יַד־יְהוָ֤ה׀ בָּעִיר֙ מְהוּמָה֙ גְּדוֹלָ֣ה מְ�ֹ֔ד וַיַּךְ֙ �ֶת־�ַנְש�ֵ֣י הָעִ֔יר מִקָּטֹ֖ן וְעַד־גָּד֑וֹל וַיִּשָּׂתְר֥וּ לָהֶ֖� עפלי� טְחֹרִֽי�׃

10 וַֽיְש�ַלְּח֛וּ �ֶת־�ֲר֥וֹן הָ�ֱלֹהִ֖י� עֶקְר֑וֹן וַיְהִ֗י כְּב֨וֹ� �ֲר֤וֹן הָ�ֱלֹהִי�֙ עֶקְר֔וֹן וַיִּזְעֲק֨וּ הָֽעֶקְרֹנִ֜י� לֵ�מֹ֗ר הֵסַ֤בּוּ �ֵלַי֙ �ֶת־�ֲרוֹן֙ �ֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָ�ֵ֔ל לַהֲמִיתֵ֖נִי וְ�ֶת־עַמִּֽי׃

11 וַיִּש�ְלְח֨וּ וַיַּ�ַסְפ֜וּ �ֶת־כָּל־סַרְנֵ֣י פְלִש�ְתִּ֗י� וַיֹּֽ�מְרוּ֙ ש�ַלְּח֞וּ �ֶת־�ֲר֨וֹן �ֱלֹהֵ֤י יִשְׂרָ�ֵל֙ וְיָש�ֹ֣ב לִמְקֹמ֔וֹ וְלֹֽ�־יָמִ֥ית �ֹתִ֖י וְ�ֶת־עַמִּ֑י כִּֽי־הָיְתָ֤ה מְהֽוּמַת־מָ֙וֶת֙ בְּכָל־הָעִ֔יר כָּבְדָ֥ה מְ�ֹ֛ד יַ֥ד הָ�ֱלֹהִ֖י� ש�ָֽ�׃

12 וְהָֽ�ֲנָש�ִי�֙ �ֲש�ֶ֣ר לֹ�־מֵ֔תוּ הֻכּ֖וּ בעפלי� בַּטְּחֹרִ֑י�a וַתַּ֛עַל ש�ַֽוְעַ֥ת הָעִ֖יר הַש�ָּמָֽיִ�׃

Vul

1 Philisthiim autem tulerunt arcam Dei, et asportaverunt eam a lapide Adjutorii in Azotum.

2 Tuleruntque Philisthiim arcam Dei, et intulerunt eam in templum Dagon, et statuerunt eam juxta Dagon.

3 Cumque surrexissent diluculo Azotii altera die, ecce Dagon jacebat pronus in terra ante arcam Domini: et tulerunt Dagon, et restituerunt eum in locum suum.

4 Rursumque mane die altera consurgentes, invenerunt Dagon jacentem super faciem suam in terra coram arca Domini: caput autem Dagon, et du palm manuum ejus absciss erant super limen:

5 porro Dagon solus truncus remanserat in loco suo. Propter hanc causam non calcant sacerdotes Dagon, et omnes qui ingrediuntur templum ejus, super limen Dagon in Azoto, usque in hodiernum diem.

6 Aggravata est autem manus Domini super Azotios, et demolitus est eos: et percussit in secretiori parte natium Azotum, et fines ejus. Et ebullierunt vill et agri in medio regionis illius, et nati sunt mures et facta est confusio mortis magn in civitate.

7 Videntes autem viri Azotii hujuscemodi plagam, dixerunt: Non maneat arca Dei Isral apud nos: quoniam dura est manus ejus super nos, et super Dagon deum nostrum.

8 Et mittentes congregaverunt omnes satrapas Philisthinorum ad se, et dixerunt: Quid faciemus de arca Dei Isral? Responderuntque Gethi: Circumducatur arca Dei Isral. Et circumduxerunt arcam Dei Isral.

9 Illis autem circumducentibus eam, fiebat manus Domini per singulas civitates interfectionis magn nimis: et percutiebat viros uniuscujusque urbis, a parvo usque ad majorem, et computrescebant prominentes extales eorum. Inieruntque Gethi consilium, et fecerunt sibi sedes pelliceas.

10 Miserunt ergo arcam Dei in Accaron. Cumque venisset arca Dei in Accaron, exclamaverunt Accaronit, dicentes: Adduxerunt ad nos arcam Dei Isral ut interficiat nos et populum nostrum.

11 Miserunt itaque et congregaverunt omnes satrapas Philisthinorum: qui dixerunt: Dimittite arcam Dei Isral, et revertatur in locum suum, et non interficiat nos cum populo nostro.

12 Fiebat enim pavor mortis in singulis urbibus, et gravissima valde manus Dei. Viri quoque qui mortui non fuerant, percutiebantur in secretiori parte natium: et ascendebat ululatus uniuscujusque civitatis in clum.
