Two youths into their boats descend,

Whose shadows on the waters sway;

Ah! light hearts bravely sped away,

My heavy heart forbodes the end.

Two youths into their boats descend,

Two lives go drifting far from me;

Between the willow glooms I see

Death lurking at the river's bend.
