Sixth Khandhaka. Chapter 18

18.

1.
Now at that time the Bhikkhus made use elsewhere of beds which were appurtenances 2 to the Vihra of a certain lay-disciple (upsaka).

Then that upsaka murmured, and their legs and robes got soiled.

They told the matter to the Blessed One.

'I allow you, O Bhikkhus, to take things away for a certain time only 1.'

Now at that time a large Vihra belonging to the Sa"m"gha went to ruin 2. The Bhikkhus, fearing to offend, did not take the bedding in it away.

They told this matter to the Blessed One.

'I allow you, O Bhikkhus, to take away things in order to save them from destruction.'
